Another Badger/Hawkeye but mostly all Badger now

Meet Bryce Gilbert.

He’s a 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive tackle from Brookfield (Wis.) Central. He recently committed to play college football for the Wisconsin Badgers and coach Bret Bielema, the head Badger/Hawkeye but mostly all Badger now. Of course, you know Bielema played and coached at Iowa.

Gilbert was born in Iowa and is a Hawkeyes fan. Well, was a Hawkeyes fan.

Gilbert’s recruiting picked up last season after he gained 40 pounds and grew two inches. Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State and Indiana called. Iowa never did.

“I was hoping they would (offer a scholarship), but they didn’t show any interest at all,” Gilbert told the Capital Times. “You’ve got to play where you’re wanted. Wisconsin’s a good fit, plus Iowa didn’t have an agriculture program and that’s what I wanted to do.”

No, he hasn’t burned his Hawkeyes gear. Not yet, anyway.

Thanks goes to The Wiz of Odds for the link.

  1. Good luck kid. If KF didn’t come calling they must have seen something they didn’t think would bode well for his future growth/potential.

He still got a Big 10 scholly even if it is in the land of cheese and beer.

  2. E, you say “land of cheese and beer” as if it’s a bad thing! 🙂

Maybe they need to see more film.

My wife has a co-worker whose son is 6-5, 300 from a neighboring state. He didn’t play much as a junior and just started lifting weights. He’s on some radars, but he’s going to need a dominant senior season for the good film. Maybe this young man is in the same boat.

I know Iowa coaches have a category for players who come alive during their senior years.

  3. Don’t they have calendars in WE? Its only June, son……

  4. That’s what I was wondering, Panther. That said, Wisconsin is a good offer and that is where he lives now.
