Podolak on his motivations

“The incident, I feel is almost a Godsend,” Podolak said. “It did shake me into examining where I was. It’s been nothing but positive for everything. I’m really looking forward to the future.”

Podolak said alcohol grew in prominence in his life last fall out of “boredom.” He pulled out of a business venture and filled that void with what led up to the Tampa incident.

“There wasn’t the thrill in my life and I was seeking to find it a different way,” he said. “You’d probably plan it a different way (than the photo/internet incident) if you were going to make this lifestyle change, but it was time.”

  1. Wow, Ed looks great in that picture. Good for him as there is no one better in that booth.

If they could teach Dolph to keep up with the action everything would be set….. Seriously, listening to him sometimes makes me think Stevie Wonder could call a game just as well.

  2. Gary Dolphin is a high school broadcaster. He hasn’t improved since he was given this job. Jim Zabel may have had his flaws, but he was an entertaining and enthusiastic broadcaster. Dolphin couldn’t carry Z’s microphone case.

  3. Wow. Where’s the love for Dolph? I don’t understand the hate here. He is a good guy who loves the program, and the players and staff seem to enjoy him too. Lay off the Dolph! I for one, enjoy his broadcasts even the parts where Ed has to correct him sometimes. Were all human, relax and enjoy the game. What’s more important, the call or the game and it’s outcome? Think you’re better ? Send in an audition tape. Go Hawks, ignore the haters, Gary!!

  4. I don’t dislike the guy as a person but he’s a marginal announcer, at best.

And he’s no better calling hoops.

  5. Gotta agree with E here. Dolph seems like a real good guy, for sure, but he’s not getting better in the booth. “Highschool” is a bit harsh, but he really does need to improve.

Ed is amazing. His insight into the game is priceless. We fans are lucky to have him back.

    Great coverage here, Marc.
