Greene, King named Camp all-Americans

GREENE AND KING NAMED WALTER CAMP ALL-AMERICANS

IOWA CITY – Junior Shonn Greene and senior Mitch King were both named all-Americans by the Walter Camp Football Foundation Thursday Night at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show in Lake Buena Vista, FL.  Greene was a first team pick, while King was named to the second team.

Greene, a 5-11, 235 pound running back from Sicklerville, NJ, continues his march to becoming Iowa’s first consensus all-American running back since Nile Kinnick in 1939 and is the first Hawkeye running back to earn Walter Camp all-American honors.  Greene had a memorable night in Florida at the Home Depot ESPNU Awards Show, collecting both the Doak Walker Award and Walter Camp all-American honors.  So far this season, Greene has been given the Chicago Tribune’s Silver Football Award, was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous first team all-Big Ten pick by the media.  He has also been named first team all-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and rivals.com.  Greene ranks second nationally in rushing and is the only FBS running back to eclipse the 100 rushing yards in every game this season.  His 1,729 rushing yards are the most in single-season history at Iowa and his 17 touchdowns are tied for the most by an Iowa player in a single-season.

King, a 6-3, 284 pound defensive tackle from Burlington, IA, was named Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year earlier this season.  He was also chosen as a first team all-Big Ten player by both the media and coaches, including a unanimous selection by the coaches.  King collected 52 tackles this season, including a team-best 15.5 for loss.

  1. Saw they honored the football team at halftime of tonight’s Iowa shellacking of the Clowns. Nice start for a young basketball team.

And just in, Blackhawks 4, Avs 3. It is definitely hockey weather up your way … my Mom said it was 3 degrees wind chill in Dubuque tonight. Just perfect down here in So. Fla. today, high around 70 and not a cloud in the sky.

When do you head down for the Outback Bowl? We are staying New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
