According to the UI’s official sports site, the Ball State (Muncie, Ind.) Cardinals are coming back to Kinnick.
The 12-0 Cardinals will fill the Sept. 25, 2010 slot, the final non-conference game for the Hawkeyes. So, Iowa’s non-conference in 2010 is Eastern Illinois, Iowa State, at Arizona and Ball State. In this day and age, that’s a respectable non-conference schedule, in my opinion.
The last meeting between the two teams was Sept. 3, 2005. Ball State had 13 players suspended the day before the game, which was Iowa’s 19 straight victory at Kinnick. A freshman running back named Shonn Greene rushed 18 times for 116 yards and a TD that day. I remember Jovon Johnson had a 90-yard punt return. That was Iowa’s last until Andy Brodell clinched this year’s Iowa State game with a punt return.
Ball State is 12-0 and have been on ESPN enough to get QB Nate Davis a few Heisman votes. The guy is good.
