Safety issue . . .

There are some internet rumors, or proclamations, saying that redshirt freshman Tyler Sash has won this week’s start at strong safety, replacing senior Harold Dalton.

I’m not sure on this one.

Last week, Sash entered the game pretty early at free safety. He was listed No. 3 there this week. Plus, coaches decided to pull the redshirt off true freshman David Cato, who’s listed No. 3 at strong safety.

I’m not sure on this one, but Kirk Ferentz said coaches are doing a lot of experimenting at safety and didn’t totally discount the notion.

So, who knows. There are a lot of good-looking athletes at the position, but defensive backs coach Phil Parker would be the first to tell you that good-looking athlete doesn’t necessarily mean good football player.

There could be a lot of experimenting this weekend. It gets real next week with the Cyclones busing into town.
