Getting up for Florida International . . .

Iowa center Rob Bruggeman was asked this week if it’s hard to get pumped for a game against a team like Florida International.

I think his answer is telling.

“It’s not hard to get up for a football game. You don’t get that many opportunities. It’s not like basketball where you get something like 50 games or something crazy. We get 12, maybe 13 if we’re lucky. Every opportunity to play a football game is exciting. You come out of that tunnel, if you don’t feel something, you probably shouldn’t be there. It’s an awesome experience.”

They get 12 of these. They get 12 games to do what they train nearly year round to do. If that’s not incentive, I don’t know what is.

  1. It is good to hear this type of mindset coming from a Hawkeye football player. I am a firm believer in teams and players playing with lots of intensity and emotion. My nephew Tim Dwight was always ready to play when he wore the black and gold and it showed on each and every play he was on the field.

  2. Exactly!

That’s one thing about covering Iowa football. Generally, they are 100 percent effort guys.

I was lucky enough to cover Tim Dwight from City High through the Hawkeyes. I haven’t seen one since. Good memories.

    Thanks for posting, Michael.
