Vandervelde injured, Coleman gone: per UI

This is from UI sports info:

VANDERVELDE INJURED, COLEMAN LEAVING

IOWA CITY, IA—Linebacker Jacody Coleman has decided to leave the University of Iowa football program. The announcement came today from Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

Coleman, a 6-3, 240-pounder from Beaumont,TX, has decided to transfer for personal reasons. He played in all 13 games last year and totaled 28 tackles for the Hawkeyes. He had 52 career tackles in his two years with Iowa. He played in 2007 as a true freshman.

Ferentz had the following comment: “We appreciate Jacody’s efforts and contributions the past two years and wish him success in the years ahead.”

Ferentz also announced that junior offensive guard Julian Vandervelde has recently undergone surgery that could potentially limit his contributions early in the season. Vandervelde is a 6-3, 300-pound lineman from Davenport. He started six games as a freshman and nine games last season.

“We were hopeful that Julian’s injury could be healed through normal rehab, but it became apparent surgical repair was the best path to take. Julian may miss some playing time, but we are optimistic he will return to full strength very early in the season. We’ll take it day by day,” said Ferentz.

Here’s a link to something on Vandervelde.

Here’s what Vandervelde wrote on his Facebook around June 16:

“Julian Zebedee Vandervelde is having surgery, but has faith that God has placed this setback in front of him so that he can come back stronger than ever before. WOOT WOOT!”

  1. Mark,

Heard Wilson and Coleman weren’t seeing eye to eye. Also Coleman wants to start. What are you hearing?

  2. Honestly, I haven’t heard much on this.

It’s too bad. In my experiences with Jacody, he was a great kid.

It doesn’t always workout, for whatever reasons.
