Sash is out; Paki is out

When Tyler Sash does anything, the internet knows if first.

When he broke into the starting lineup against Iowa State, Oskaloosa folks posted it on the internet I think on Thursday before the game. Now, it was out there on Wednesday or Thursday this week that he has a shoulder problem and would be out for today’s game. When you read something about Sash on the internets, it’s probably true. He’s out today and senior Harold Dalton is starting. The Sash internet following also says Sash faces an MRI Monday and that a long-term prognosis is unknown. Hey, there’s a pretty good track record established here, so I’d believe them. FWIW, Sash is listed as No. 2 SS today, so who knows. Maybe he can play.

Also, RB Paki O’Meara is out with a strained MCL, though he’s listed as No. 2. Expect true freshman Jewel Hampton and don’t be surprised if fellow true freshman Jeff Brinson makes his debut. He’s got Greene-like size, 5-11, 215, but we don’t know a lot about him yet. During his weekly radio show, Kirk Ferentz did say that Brinson recently changed from No. 34 to 44 because, if he did play, he might end up on special teams with defensive back Chris Rowell, who also wears No. 34. You can have duplicate numbers, but you can’t have them on the field at the same time. So, maybe Brinson’s number change means he’s playing.

I have no idea if this means anything or what, but Northwestern doesn’t list a starting running back on its flipcard, instead naming four starters at WR. STud RB Tyrell Sutton suffered a hamstring injury of the first half of the Cats’ victory over Ohio last weekend and didn’t play in the second half. Everyone in Evanston said Sutton was 100 percent A-OK for today. Hamstrings are funny, though. Ask Iowa linebacker Jeff Tarpinian, who might see his first action today after sitting out with a hamstring since the first week of camp back in August.

Kickers are out.

The live chat thingie fires up at about 10:30 or so. I’ll update here until it’s time to roll over there.
